Teaching at an English New Zealand School
Member schools have a range of teaching opportunities as demand for study in New Zealand grows post-Covid.
There are opportunities for Working Holiday Visa holders to gain overseas teaching experience while travelling in New Zealand. A CELTA or equivalent is preferred but for temporary teachers, if you have a minimum of an initial TESOL qualification or 500 hours’ English language teaching experience plus at least CEFR C1 Level of English, send your CV and a cover letter to info@englishnewzealand.co.nz
The English New Zealand Standards outline the minimum requirements for teaching staff in permanent and temporary roles, as well as specific requirements for a Director of Studies/Academic Manager role.
All permanent teaching staff must hold an initial TESOL qualification that meets the following requirements:
- An initial TESOL qualification should be externally validated and moderated by a reputable examination body (typically a university or recognised examination board). It should include a minimum of 6 hours’ supervised, assessed and moderated teaching practice and at least 100 hours of TESOL input (examples are Cambridge CELTA and Trinity CertTESOL).
If you want to teach at an English New Zealand school and have appropriate qualifications and experience, send your CV and referee contact details to info@englishnewzealand.co.nz
If you are seeking a permanent position, please include evidence to demonstrate your initial TESOL qualification meets each specific requirement detailed above. Please also indicate the city in which you are seeking employment.
Please visit the Immigration New Zealand website to find out about visas/work eligibility in New Zealand if you are not a NZ citizen or permanent resident.
If you qualify for a Working Holiday Visa you may be able to find temporary teaching work at an English New Zealand school if you have suitable qualifications and experience.
